Worship Opportunities
You can participate in the worship and fellowship on Sunday mornings. Some of the opportunities include:
- Greeters – Welcome worshippers as they arrive on Sunday mornings
- Choir – Join the Calvary Church choir! Meets on Wednesday evenings to practice
- Acolytes – lighting the candles before worship service
- Ushers – help collect the offering
- Communion – Assist in the preparation of the Communion table
- Help bake Communion bread
- Host coffee hour
Christian Education Opportunities
Our Christian Education program is growing rapidly, and there are a number of opportunities to participate in the various education ministries at Calvary:
- Sunday School teachers and helpers
- Junior Church – teachers and helpers
- Children’s Choir – adult helpers and children participants
- Children’s Message
- Youth Group – looking for adults interested in
helping with youth activities
- Book study and discussion group – meets every 1-2
months
- Adult Choir
- Mid-Week Adult Studies
New ideas for education and spiritual formation events
or programs are always welcome!
Outreach Opportunities
Missions and outreach ministries are always in need of helping hands and hearts. A few of the ongoing opportunities are listed here, and please visit our Calendar for current activities and opportunities.
- Helping Hands meets each Thursday at 9:30 a.m. All ages participate in helping with projects for the community and the church.
- Serving dinner at the Somerville Homeless
Coalition shelter. A group from Calvary Church prepares and
serves a dinner for the 15 residents of the College Ave shelter
on the last Sunday of each month.
- Stand for Children and Greater Boston Interfaith
Organization teams meet regularly to work on local social
justice issues.
- Arlington Food Pantry – drop off needed items in the
box located outside of the church office.
- United Methodist Women
Opportunities for Children and Youth
Children and Youth are an important and vital part of our community, and their voices, hands and hearts can serve in a number of enriching activities and programs through Calvary Church:
- Acolytes – lighting the candles and turning the
Bible to the scripture reading
- Children’s Choir
- Greeters before worship
- Helping Hands
- Youth Group – ages 12-18
