Sunday School Classes for All Ages

Calvary Church is fortunate to have a staff of talented men and women who teach Sunday School with love and care to help others know and love God. Classes meet from 9:30 to 10:20 every Sunday. Visitors are always welcome!

Sunday School Mission Project - For nine weeks after January 6, 2008, the classes will do a mission project together. The project is partnering with United Methodist Churches and the Nothing But Nets organization to stop the spread of malaria. The highlight date is March 2, 2008 which is Nothing But Nets/Mission Project Celebration Day with Free Throw Fundraiser and Fair: 3-5 p.m. at Gibbs Gym.

Infants and Toddlers - Children from newborn to two years old and their parents meet in the Upper Room above the narthex for songs, fellowship, and play.

Preschool - Children ages three and four meet in the Milne Room. Each Sunday they hear a story from the Bible and learn through related songs, prayers, activities, and crafts. Parents are welcome to stay until children are comfortable on their own in the classroom.

Lower Elementary - Children in Kindergarten through Grade 2 meet in the Nursery. Through stories, songs, games and other activities, students in this class begin to connect stories in the Bible with choices in their own lives. The older kids help the younger ones learn about the Bible.

Upper Elementary - Children in Grades 3, 4 & 5 meet on the Stage in the Fellowship Hall. Children engage in a variety of activities as they learn to put their faith into action.

Youth - Both middle school and high school youth meet together with leaders in the corner basement classroom. A number of different experiences are planned for the youth to explore their faith and connection with worship and current issues. The students help choose the topics of study.

Adults - Adults of all ages meet in the Parlor. Class topics are chosen by the group. This Fall, the class is studying "Begin at the Beginning" - a study on the basics of Christian faith.

Junior Church and Infant/Toddler Space

All children and adults attend worship together in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings. After a time of prayer, song, and Bible readings, children gather at the front of the sanctuary with the pastor and worship leaders for a special children's time.

After the children's message, children ages 3-10 are invited to
attend Junior Church in the Milne Room to continue the worship experience. The adult leaders lead the children through an age-appropriate worship service with singing, bible story, offering and prayer. The time is completed with related activities and crafts. A team of adults rotates leadership for Junior Church. (Children in grades four and up are encouraged to stay in the sanctuary with their parents.)

Children under age three who need some wiggle time during the service can come with a parent to the Upper Room, which contains infant/toddler toys, a changing table, and a sofa. The Upper Room has a window into the sanctuary, allowing parents to hear the service.

Children's Choir

The children's choir is open to all children ages 4 and above. The choir meets for rehearsals each Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 7:00 and performs during the Sunday worship service once each month. The Children's Choir leader is Sue Paro.

Youth Group

Children in Grades 6 - 12 are invited to join in our growing Youth Group. This group meets twice per month, generally on Sunday evening, offering a wide variety of outings and activities. Please contact Susan Stewart at the church or at coordinator@calvaryarlington.org for more details and specific schedule. Please also visit the Youth Group page of this website.

Book Club

The Book Club meets every 1-2 months to review and discuss selected books in the church Parlor. Some of the books reviewed include Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised our Nation, The Secret Life of Bees, Tuesdays with Morrie, and The Red Tent. All are welcome. Our next book will be Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. Please join us.

Mid-Week Adult Education Opportunities

Each year, adult studies are offered by the Pastor and other leaders at Calvary Church. Please join us for a 5-week bible study entitled Companions in Christ. The study group will meet each Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m., beginning Thursday, February 7, 2008.

Some of the previous studies have included looking at books by various authors such as Jay B. McDaniel's With Roots and Wings: Christianity in an Age of Ecology and Dialogue, Marcus Borg's Meeting Jesus Again For The First Time, Ched Myers' Say to This Mountain, Joyce Rupp's May I Have This Dance, and Susan Farnham's Listening Hearts.
